The Italian Grand Prix at Monza – Racing History at Its Finest

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is one of the oldest and fastest circuits in Formula 1, earning its nickname as the “Temple of Speed.” Located in Monza, Italy, the track has hosted the Italian Grand Prix since 1922. The current Grand Prix layout measures 5.793 km (3.600 miles) per lap and features 11 corners, a relatively low number compared to most modern F1 circuits, which contributes to its high average speeds and long full-throttle sections.

A Formula 1 race at Monza runs for 53 laps, covering a total distance of approximately 306.72 km (190.59 miles). The circuit is defined by its long straights, heavy braking zones, and iconic high-speed corners such as Curva Grande and the Parabolica (now Curva Alboreto). With cars spending around 75–80% of the lap at full throttle, Monza consistently produces some of the fastest top speeds and slipstream battles seen anywhere on the F1 calendar.

Iconic Corners & Sections of Monza

  • Rettifilo Tribune (Start/Finish Straight) – One of the longest straights in F1.

  • Variante del Rettifilo – Scene of many first-lap incidents and dramatic braking duels.

  • Serraglio – Flat-out kink after Lesmo 2.

  • Parabolica – Crucial for lap time due to long exit onto full throttle.

The Italian tifosi add to the magic, creating an atmosphere filled with passion, history, and energy. Few circuits in the world carry the same emotional weight as Monza.
